Welcome to Abriendo Puertas - The Nation's Leader in Family Engagement in Education
In November 2003, Texas A&M University, under the direction of its College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, established the Abriendo Puertas (Opening Doors) Parental Communication Initiative as a pilot operation to positively impact the educational future of the Rio Grande Valley region of Texas.
Today, Abriendo Puertas is a Texas-wide, nationally recognized, nonprofit organization. Still affiliated with Texas A&M, the Abriendo Puertas Initiative provides a parent and family support system to assist Hispanic students in high school completion and college enrollment. Specifically, the Initiative was created to provide parents and family members with the training, skills, and tools to become the chief advocates for their children and help them achieve academic success.

The U.S. Department of Education through their Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) has funded a three year grant to Abriendo Puertas and the Texas A&M Research Foundation.
